Job Summary The Laboratory Assistant utilizes technology to perform job duties, documentation and communication. The Lab Assistant manages specimens, requisitions, order entry, and timing-in specimens. The assistant processes specimens and prepares aliquots, manages laboratory reports and maintains supply inventory. This position recognizes and investigates problems and engages in courteous communication that supports business operations. # Essential Job Functions Utilizes technology effectively to perform accurate data entry/retrieval, documentation, and communication. Assures accurate specimen labeling as applicable. Receives specimen and verifies accurate specimen and requisition labeling. Manages patient and specimen encounters, order entry, accessioning, timing-in, etc. Processes blood and body fluid specimen and prepares, distributes, and stores specimen aliquots. Manages laboratory reports. Prepares and maintains adequate supply and stock inventory. Initiates, completes, and documents quality assurance and maintenance processes. Recognizes problems, investigates and takes corrective action, documents problem and response, and notifies supervisor in a timely manner. Engages in courteous communication that supports business operations through verbal, written, and other appropriate means. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services. Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property. Frequent Drivers: Persons whose main responsibility is not driving, but drive daily or almost daily. Occasional Drivers: Persons who drive from once per month to as frequently as once per week.
