Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.The High Voltage Electric Lines Standards Department is responsible for maintaining High Voltage Distribution (HVD) electric line standards, specifications, engineering data, guides, and other documents and databases as they relate to the various industry codes and standards i.e. IEEE, NESC, ANSI, etc. Development and maintenance of department documents involves cross functional cooperation with internal and external parties regarding proposed work and their impacts to HVD lines, material evaluations, and various other responsibilities associated with Consumers Energy's HVD line facilities. The position is located within Electric Standards Department, reporting to the HVD Electric Lines Standards Lead.Job Description/ ResponsibilitiesThe Technician position in HVD Electric Lines Standards involves a variety of responsibilities in support of the design and engineering of HVD electric facilities. Responsibilities may include development of tools and databases leveraged by HVD Lines Standards, HVD Design, and construction and development and maintenance of the High Voltage Distribution Electric Lines Standards books, Engineering Data Book, Design Guide, material specifications, and other department documents. Support of these efforts may include material evaluations and management, partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and industry research.RequirementsThe Technician Job Family is utilized throughout Consumers Energy. Employees in this job family are required to possess a two-year associate degree in the requisite scientific or technical field or 48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis. The 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, military programs, etc.The successful candidate should have the following specific skills and abilities:* Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate across many departments and disciplines, including internal and external individuals with varied technical experience.* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.* Knowledge and experience working in various SAP platforms.* Knowledge of high voltage electric line system components.* Must be self-motivated and exhibit a positive and professional attitude.* Experience using Computer Aided Design (Microstation experience preferred).* Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, address customer requests, deliver on customer expectations, meet goals and objectives, provide appropriate solutions to problems, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.* An understanding of electric utility construction practices and limitations.Position will be filled at the appropriate salary grade based upon the skills, knowledge, and experience of the selected candidate.
