Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * Responsibilities listed are at the full performance level. * Independently plan and conduct a variety of field studies on wildlife, fish, invertebrate, and plant species to determine numbers, environmental conditions, and factors affecting terrestrial and aquatic habitat. * Data elements may cover habitat conditions and age, species location, breeding status, species condition. * Evaluate data collected and make recommendations for species or habitat improvements. * Develop work plans with provisions on how data is collected and factors to use for analysis. * Assist Biologist in planning work by contributing productive ideas on material and method uses. * Develop, adapt, or improve techniques, procedures and equipment based on knowledge and experience. * Analyze conditions in order to adapt study procedures and data collection in order to provide clear, concise recommendations on improving habitat and/or species conditions. * Provide detailed reports on work methods, data collected and project evaluations. * Recommend equipment requirements for projects and assures equipment is available and operational when needed. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Provided technical support in a fish and wildlife management field environment by organizing wildlife-related data; Collected field data on fish and wildlife habitat, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; and/or Maintained records of findings or results of biological science surveys, tests and procedures. OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours). Acceptable disciplines for qualification are: fisheries and/or wildlife ecology, fisheries and/or wildlife management, ichthyology, herpetology, entomology, ornithology, mammalogy, biostatistics. The education must have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college or university with courses related to the occupation of the position. OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college or university with courses related to the occupation of the position. For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Specialized experience is defined as Collected terrestrial and aquatic animal information such as presence and condition; Assisted with the assessment of habitat conditions for native wildlife and aquatic species; Created maps and assisted with developing habitat management and improvement plans; Assisted biologists in terrestrial and aquatic habitat improvement or restoration work; Compiled biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys; and/or Identified sites for habitat management. OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as fisheries and/or wildlife ecology, fisheries and/or wildlife management, ichthyology, herpetology, entomology, ornithology, mammalogy, biostatistics). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Prepared plans for collecting terrestrial and aquatic animal information such as presence, condition, and/or breeding status; Assessed habitat conditions and suitability for native wildlife and aquatic species; Developed draft copies of habitat management and improvement plans; Performed terrestrial and aquatic habitat improvement or restoration work; Interpreted biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys; and/or Evaluated sites for habitat management. OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as fisheries and/or wildlife ecology, fisheries and/or wildlife management, ichthyology, herpetology, entomology, ornithology, mammalogy, biostatistics). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
