This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.OREmployees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.Licensure: For all grade levels & positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, & unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.IN ADDITION TO MEETING BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE APPLICANTS MUST MEET SPECIALZIED EXPERIENCE BELOW:QUALIFICATION FOR GS-05:Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience.* OR-Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience.QUALIFICATION FOR GS-07:Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision.ORPossession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year at the GS-05 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position. Examples of specialized experience includes professional nursing experience; knowledge of established professional nursing concepts, principles & practices to assess the needs of assigned general medical & surgical patients; skill required to provide nursing care to assigned patients and skill required to develop or participate in developing a nursing plan to meet the needs of assigned patients.ORPossession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience;ORCompletion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.QUALIFICATION FOR GS-09:Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing.ORAt least one full year at the GS-07 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position. Examples of specialized experience includes professional nursing experience; knowledge of nursing care principles, practices & procedures required to assess nursing needs of assigned general medical & surgical patients; ability to develop or participate in developing a nursing plan to meet the needs of assigned patients; ability to recognize adverse signs & symptoms & to react swiftly in emergency situations; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, & complications of their use; skill in operating specialized medical equipment such as resuscitators & cardiac monitoring devices; knowledge of a wide variety of medical disorders, for example, general surgery, orthopedic & gynecological; & the normal course of diseases, anticipated complications & indicated therapeutic intervention and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.QUALIFICATION FOR GS-10:Completed 24 semesters hours leading to a completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.ORAt least one full year at the GS-09 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position. Examples of specialized experience includes professional nursing experience; knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures and techniques to outpatients with a wide variety of conditions; alertness and skill in providing care in reacting promptly to emergency situations such as treatment of accident victims; collecting blood and urine specimens for lab analysis; performing procedures, treatments and medical administration for patients; serving as a nursing team leader, including scheduling and directing shift operations; and providing instructions to patients to communicate the plan of care and possession of a diploma, associate degree or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.QUALIFICATION FOR GS-11:Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.ORAt least one full year at the GS-10 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience includes professional nursing experience; applying knowledge of the full range of professional nursing principles, practices & procedures applied in providing services in clinic, home, school & community environments; ability to counsel & teach individuals, families & groups; ability to take medical histories, conduct physical examinations, & communicate results of laboratory tests; ability to assess & treat minor illnesses such as colds, cuts, & contusions and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program..QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-12: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position providing comprehensive professional nursing care to patients; providing extensive follow-up & preventative health care, planning intervention & evaluation of patients care methods for issues & problems; examining diagnose & treating diseases; interpreting & examining findings & test results.QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-13: One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position providing effective direct & indirect care to patients & families based on nursing diagnoses indicated by individual needs. Plans, schedules, & provides complete nursing care with the physician leader; provides critical care management through the entire continuum of care: per-hospital, resuscitation, stabilization, support care & rehabilitation; knowledge of anatomy & physiology of the neurologic, pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, endocrine, renal, hematologic, musculoskeletal & integumentary systems.EducationQUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-14: One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level under the General Schedule, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of professional nursing care theories, principles, practices, & procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty.2. Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, & complications of their use.3. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, & follow up care.4. Skill in setting up & operating specialized medical equipment such as resuscitators, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, & ventilators.5.
