In order to form and shape advanced material, the Advanced Grind Machinist will work from basic drawings, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. You'll operate lathes, drill presses, mills, routers, grinding machines, duplicating, and profile machines, brakes and shears such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws. What you'll experience: * Technologies that aren't just top-notch, they're often top-secret * A team of bold thinkers committed to exploring what's next * Opportunities to gain new knowledge - as it's discovered What you bring to the table: * An Associate's degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience * Ability to read and follow instructions including Engineering and CAD drawings * Ability to use mechanical hand and simple power tools * Sound leadership, computer, organization and communication skills What sets you apart: * Creative thinking with the ability to multi-task * Commitment to ongoing professional development * Team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success THIS IS A 2ND SHIFT POSITION REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS: Able to setup and operate CNC Grinders, manual OD-ID Grinders with minimal supervision and achieve accuracies within millionths Able to measure workpiece after machining using instruments such as electronic gauges Expected to be able to troubleshoot setups and runs to produce quality parts and control several factors such as: part run out, grind burns and dimensional variances Visually inspect all parts, under magnification as required, for defects/FOD prior to and after performing work Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements Measures, makes and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers and grinders Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Verifies, by initials, conformance of finished work piece to specifications Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly Draws sketches of tooling for part to be fabricated Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems Maintains traceability of material by keeping lot items together or serialized Notifies supervisor or Lead Person as instructed when order is completed for sign off Maintains equipment and immediate work area in a clean and orderly condition Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures Interfaces with employees and managers within the department, Manufacturing, and Engineering No instructions needed on routine work and general instruction given on new lines of work or special assignments KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to read and follow instructions including Engineering and CAD drawings Solid interpersonal skills to cooperate and work effectively with others Solid communication skills, both verbal and written Solid computer skills Solid organizational skills Ability to multitask Able to use mechanical hand and simple power tools Company Overview General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) engineers a diverse portfolio of high technology solutions, products and services that enable customers to successfully execute missions across all domains of operation.
