Scientist, CRISPR saturation mutagenesis

Employment Type

: Full-Time

Industry

: Miscellaneous

Illumina is recruiting a talented experimental scientist to develop massively parallel sequencing assays for measuring the functional effects of millions of human genetic variants. Methods employed may include CRISPR, MPRA, single cell RNA-seq, and other novel approaches to experimentally perturb large numbers of genetic variants, with the aim of functionally validating millions of variants from exome and whole genome sequencing of disease cohorts. This is an opportunity to work on fundamental science with the backing of Illumina's resources for data generation. Findings will be published in peer-reviewed journals and released in software products in order to improve the accuracy, throughput, and reproducibility of genome interpretation, thereby removing barriers to clinical adoption of whole genome sequencing. In addition to strong analytical skills, this position will require a high degree of initiative, autonomy, and scientific collaboration. Requirements: * Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills and track record of technical achievement * Design and execute experimental approaches for saturation mutagenesis or deep mutational scanning of protein coding genes or non-coding elements. * Expertise in molecular biology techniques (RNA and DNA extraction, vector design, cloning, PCR optimization etc), CRISPR based genome editing, Lentiviral packaging and transduction, cell culture, transfection, FACS, single cell sequencing. * Experience with NGS datasets analysis and comfortable using command-line tools. Familiar with statistical analysis using tools such as JMP, R or similar. * Publish and present results to benefit the wider genetics community. Education: * Advanced degree in molecular biology, bioengineering, biophysics, or related field. At Illumina, we strive to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace by cultivating an environment in which everyone contributes to our mission. Built on a strong foundation, Illumina has always been rooted in openness, collaboration, and seeking alternative views and perspectives to propel innovation in genomics. We are proud to confirm a zero-net gap in pay, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or race. We also have several Employee Resource Groups (ERG) that deliver career development experiences, increase cultural awareness, and demonstrate our collective commitment to diversity and inclusion in the communities we live and work.
