AGENCY DESCRIPTION Lawrence Hall, established in 1865, is one of the oldest child welfare agencies in Illinois, offering a wide range of services and programs for youth and families. Lawrence Hall is a community based agency embracing at-risk youth and their families by instilling resilience, healing and changing lives for good. The vision of Lawrence Hall is to provide hope, healing, and resiliency. Lawrence Hall's Child and Family Treatment Center, Foster Care Program, Older Adolescent Program, Therapeutic Day School, and Project Work programs are designed to effectively address problematic behaviors and emotional issues, often related to histories of severe trauma and significant experiences of loss and separation. Since 2013, Lawrence Hall has been a leader in the field of residential treatment for youth with histories of sexually problematic behavior or sexual offending behavior. We have developed expertise in this area and plan to expand services to all Chicago youth with these presenting needs through our formal partnerships. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Therapist carries a caseload of youth designated as either youth with sexually problematic behaviors or juvenile sex offenders. Services are a blend of evaluation and individual and group treatment services for youth. Therapist will also work in collaboration across programs supporting community-based trauma trainings, providing trainings specific to sexually problematic and offending behaviors to the community and stakeholder. Services will occur in the community, which may include visits to homes, schools, or in other community settings. This position requires effective verbal communication with staff, community resources and youths/families, as well as ability to provide ongoing required written documentation. Therapist must have effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, and knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Must be able to effectively use both verbal and physical crisis intervention skills and techniques with individuals six (6) through twenty-one (21) years of age. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Therapist must also maintains flexibility to adjust work schedules according to needs of the program. RESPONSIBILITIES * Carries an individual therapy caseload of up to 25 youth * Meets weekly with youth in appropriate settings, which may include office, home, or community services and documents all attempts to meet with youth * Completes Psychosexual Evaluations based on court-orders and industry standards * Formulates and frequently reviews treatment plans and assessments with supervisor * Takes leadership in the planning and facilitation of clinical consultation with relevant staff * Provides data, relays information and consults about treatment goals with relevant staff * Works with other staff in coordination of efforts to reach the treatment goals established * Attends agency seminars and trainings to increase professional knowledge and skills * Attends ATSA conferences and works toward obtaining LSOTP and LSOE licenses upon eligibility * Ability to work effectively with youths and staff in a culturally diverse environment * Documents contact with youth, family, staff and any professional consultation * Develop trainings and conduct consultation services with community members and stakeholders involved in the lives of the youths to support and teach others about recognizing and managing clinical issues * Tracks and evaluates services and prepares monthly reports as requested * Documents all provided services as required by agency policy * Performs the above tasks under close weekly support, supervision, training, and direction of the clinical supervisor * Attend weekly group supervision hour with clinical colleagues * Knowledge of basic computer skills and ability to communicate effectively via email * Maintain a professional standard when representing the agency or youths * Uses active and reflective listening skills and affirmations to demonstrate respect and empathy, avoiding negative and derogatory labels that foster disrespect * Understand that behaviors, responses, attitudes, and emotions are a collection of survival skills often developed in response to traumatic experiences * Maintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants to provide a safe environment * Attend at least two trainings related to being trauma informed in a twelve-month period * Ability to work effectively with program participants and family members, employees and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recovery * Maintains electronic calendar to provide accounting for daily activities and provides permissions for viewing to the appropriate individuals * Requires knowledge of typical child and adolescent development and an understanding of trauma exposure and traumatic stress signs and symptoms * Practice will include using strategies that support healing, recovery, and that resist re-traumatization * Engage caregivers, parents, family members and others by sharing strengths and challenges experienced by program participants * Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS * Master's / Doctoral degree in Social Work, Psychology or related Human Service field with LSW or LPC upon hire * LCSW or LCPC required upon eligibility * LSOTP preferred and/or required upon eligibility * Must have a valid Illinois driver's license with no suspensions in effect within the previous three (3) years of hire * Must have personal vehicle or access to personal vehicle and provide proof of automobile liability insurance * Computer skills required * No history of child abuse or neglect * Must demonstrate skill in working with adolescents and adults of the type served in the program * Ability to pass background clearance and drug screen * Ability to work effectively with youth/staff of diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds * Experience in adolescent and adult mental health services preferred Position meets the FLSA requirements for Exempt.
