# # # Job Summary The Firefighters# Burn and Surgical Research Laboratory Research Associate will be responsible for contributing technically and scientifically to basic and translational research in partnership with the laboratory director and laboratory Principal Investigator (PI). Broad research topics include:Dressing products, topical agents, and other anti-inflammatory and antibiotic evaluation and testing (animal models), Microvascular assessment in burn wound conversion, Burn shock modeling, Novel applications of dermal substitutes, Laserguided burn wound excision, Local and systemic mechanisms that contribute to burn wound conversion, In vivo studies of electrical injury, Natural history of hypertrophic scarring, Sepsis and complications of infection, Clinical Studies in burn patient populations. This position will involve collaboration with our partners at Fort Detrick USACEHR Systems Biology Group, Catholic University, and Georgetown University. # # Minimum Qualifications Education/Training Bachelor#s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar field OR a Bachelors degree (BS/BA) in combination with equivalent work experiences such that the objectives of the position are equaled. Masters degree (MS) preferable. Experience Previous experience in a laboratory setting with in vitro and in vivo models, and a willingness to learn new techniques. Previous experience in chemistry, microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology. Previous training with basic techniques such as HPLC, cell culture, western blotting, ELISA, and PCR is desired. Experience with animal experimentation is required. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, dedicated individual who is capable of working both independently and on various team projects and can manage multiple duties with close attention to detail. Knowledge, Skills # Abilities Excellent communication and organizational skills required. # # Primary Duties and Responsibilities Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MedStar Health Research Institute policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner. Analyze data and prepare for presentation at professional meetings and/or publication. Provide authorship on subsequent published material. Assist with clinical studies by monitoring each patient#s study progress to fulfill protocol and study requirements and help maintain all required study related documentation including regulatory files. Assist with grant proposal preparation and project reports. Communicate effectively with investigators, clinical coordinators and colleagues to ensure efficient clinical trial implementation and progress. Coordination and execution of animal surgery and procedures. Maintain repository specimens and database (s) in conjunction with laboratory director and other associates. Participate in and present weekly at lab meetings and journal club, and maintain laboratory notebook and records. Perform other duties as assigned. Plan and perform in vitro experiments in mammalian cell culture models. Process human and animal specimens. Provide basic training for, and oversee the work of, interns, volunteers, medical students, and new research fellows. Take appropriate courses (animal training, safety, CITI, etc.). Work as a liaison with collaborating labs and colleagues.
