ResponsibilitiesThe Senior BI Engineer is a key player and a leader in our reporting/analytics team and assumes responsibility for working with the business on the continuous development and support of reporting, analytics, and data visualizations. The role will also assume responsibility for the maintenance of our on-premise reporting servers (SAP BusinessObjects v4.2) and complementing tools (audit; report publishing and distribution).The individual must have experience leading or taking part in business intelligence projects and creating and supporting reporting/analytics solutions, with a high level of reporting and analytics skills, data analysis, strategic planning, project management, customer service, and a strong understanding of Agile and ITIL processes. Ideally, the individual will have experience with the development and maintenance of BusinessObjects reports and universes.The individual must be able to effectively communicate and form relationships with end-users and business leaders in order to drive the strategy and adoption of BusinessObjects and other reporting and visualization tools. Additionally, the individual must understand the business' data, suggest improved methods for analyzing it, and understand and extract data requirements.The individual must have an exceptional sense of customer service to provide an example for the team and engage with other teams across the organization. As this is a senior-level and business-facing role, the Senior BI Engineer must also have excellent communication skills and be able to take on leadership roles in projects and articulate project progress and obstacles to all stakeholders, from internal/I.T. teams to line-level employees and Executive Vice Presidents.* Be a 'data evangelist' and inspire the business to collaborate to create meaningful reports and analytics, and be able to demonstrate the power of data and the value of using and growing available resources (reports, dashboards, etc.).* Be a reporting and analytics 'engineer' and drive the strategy and adoption of BusinessObjects and other reporting and visualization tools.* Design, develop, and maintain SAP BusinessObjects universes and Web Intelligence reports and dashboards.* Design and develop data structures (database tables and views) and data marts to support reporting and analytics requirements.* Assume shared responsibility for the SAP BusinessObjects 4.2 environment, including maintenance and troubleshooting, patches, and upgrades.* Assume shared responsibility for ETL jobs and tools (SAP Data Services, DBMoto, others).* Identify and execute on continuous improvement of the existing universes, reports, and database foundations.* Identify and execute on opportunities to grow our reporting and analytics resources by extending the extraction and use of data, the use of SAP BusinessObjects, and the adoption of complementing or additional tools.* Adhere to Agile and ITIL processes for database development and integrations.* Ensures compliance with security policies and practices by following internal and external audit governing bodies.* Makes recommendations to improve and ensures the performance of quality assurance and support processes.* Provides professional and timely communications while working in a collaborative environment with a diverse group of associates.* Works closely with the I.T. project management team to deliver resources to projects in a timely and effective manner.* Regularly reports against uptime and availability and ensures both IT senior management and the business are kept proactively informed.* Ensures collaborative working practices are implemented and encouraged within the team, across the team, and with business partners.* Maintains a strong ethical approach to vendors, customers, and staff, and aligned with the ethical principles of the company.* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking current practices, and participating in professional societies.See what our CFO has to say about Meritage Homes!* Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or another related field, years of experience in report development roles will be considered in place of formal education.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing skills.* Proven experience developing and supporting data analytics, business intelligence projects, and data warehouse solutions.* Proven experience developing and supporting SAP BusinessObjects solutions.* Proven understanding of versioning and the development lifecycle, especially regarding BusinessObjects and SQL Server objects.* Experience with Data Lakes, Operational Data Stores, and Enterprise Data Warehouses.* Experience with dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, and supporting ETL solutions.* Assume responsibility of the BusinessObjects environment:* Assist end-users with any questions or issues raised.* Manage Development, QA, and Production servers.* Perform maintenance activities such as updating/patching and performance tuning.* Perform system monitoring, metric reporting, and diagnostics.* Strong understanding of Agile & ITIL methodologies and processes.* Able to work in a corporate office environment and with frequent contact with other staff, contractors, vendors, and the public.Preferred* Varied experience with other reporting and analytics tools besides SAP BusinessObjects.* ITIL and Agile training and qualifications.* Experience of Home Building Industry (or a closely aligned industry).OverviewAre you looking for an incredible career opportunity?
