Department Profile Internal Audit is responsible for validating whether the firm operates in a controlled environment with appropriate risk-management processes. Auditors evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the firms internal controls using a risk-based methodology developed from professional auditing standards. Internal Audit assists in monitoring the firms compliance with internal guidelines set for risk management and risk monitoring/ as well as external rules and regulations governing the industry. The department reports directly to the Board Audit Committee and helps verify whether the firm meets its fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders/ while adhering to corporate-governance standards and legal and regulatory requirements. Internal Audit is comprised of Business and Technology auditors. Business auditors focus on understanding the risks that the businesses face and the controls to mitigate those risks. Technology auditors focus on the application controls supporting the business processes/ including systems development/ application security and entitlements/ production management/ and technology governance. Both groups are responsible for understanding/ analyzing/ and testing the controls to protect the franchise. Background on the Position Morgan Stanley is seeking a Senior Manager to join its U.S. Banks Internal Audit Division/ in a business auditor capacity/ to support internal audit plan and coverage of both U.S. Banks (i.e./ Morgan Stanley Bank/ N.A. and Morgan Stanley Private Bank/ N.A.) as well as collaborative efforts of the broader Internal Audit business/functional audit teams in the risk assessments of the U.S. Banks. A successful candidate will help execute the annual assurance plan to support messages related to the Banks control environment to senior management/ regulators and the Banks board of directors. While the primary stakeholders are in NYC/ the roles location is flexible. Primary Responsibilities * Understand/ analyze/ and evaluate the U.S. Banks businesses/ support structure/ strategy and governance/ including applicable laws/ rules and regulations * Identify and assess areas of critical and high risks and evaluate the soundness of their controls as part of assurance activities/ continuous monitoring and closure verification work in order to formulate a point of view of the control environment * Drive discussions and ask probing questions to further dialogue with senior business stakeholders to understand risk drivers/ control state/ and impact * Plan and effectively execute assurance activities/ including audits and targeted reviews/ continuous monitoring and closure verification work on time/ within budgets and in compliance with the departmental methodology/ policies/ and standards * Provide coaching and guidance to junior staff * Proactively monitor and address key metrics associated with audit plans/ resources and issues and actions. Skills Required * College degree (or equivalent) required/ CPA/ CIA or international equivalent audit qualification preferred * Good understanding of Institutional/ commercial lending/ relevant banking products / services/ associated regulations and risks * Good understanding of financial instruments including cash/ derivatives and other fixed income products/ complex reserves/ and associated regulatory requirements * Knowledgeable of key compliance requirements driven by various regulatory guidelines include but not limited to Compliance Heightened Standards (12 CFR part 30 Appendix D) requirements/ liquidity and capital requirements/ and Compliance with Safety and Soundness standards (12 CFR § 37.8) * Demonstrates critical thinking by gathering and synthesizing information to form a basis for analysis and formulate a viewpoint * Ability to communicate with impact/ able to state risk and issues concisely and articulates impact in a structured manner both written and verbally * Ability to work independently and with a team on assignments/ while multi-tasking and meeting deadlines * Enthusiastic/ self-motivated/ strong interest in learning/ effective under pressure and willing to take personal responsibility/accountability Experience * A four-year college degree in a business discipline (e.g./ finance/ economics/ accounting) * 8 years of experience in financial services is essential/ with a preference for experience auditing Banks products and associated regulations * Good understanding of consumer compliance regulations include but are not limited to Truth in Lending Act (TILA)/ Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)/ Fair Lending/ Flood Disaster Protection Act/ and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) * Preferably CPA/ CIA or other accounting qualification
